Where should I stay?
Chicago has a plethora of hotels to choose from. Ideally, you would want to be no more than a 30 minute drive from the venue. A good way to search would be to go to hotels-dot-com or airbnb-dot-com (see links) and enter 60647 as your zip code, and then move out from there.
Here are other zip codes to try:
60601, 60602, 60603, 60604, 60605, 60622, 60614, 60657, 60613, 60647, 60618, 60640
What's an Air BnB?
Air BnB is a service that allows buyers to rent properties from private owners. You can rent a room, floor, or entire unit/home. It's a good option to consider as you can save quite a bit of money over a hotel and not sacrifice comfort or location.
How can I get around Chicago?
Buses & Trains via the CTA
The CTA buses and trains are great and inexpensive way to get around the city. You can plan your routes at the link below. It will tell you what bus and/or train you can take to get to your destination. Directions are also embedded into Google Maps.
http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/
Also consider downloading the "Transit Stop: CTA Tracker" app or a similar app for your phone for directions on the go.
Fares are $2.25, exact change only. No, the bus driver does not have change. Yes, they will kick you off the bus if you don't have exact change, so get your one dollar bills and quarters ready. A better option is to get a free Ventra card and to load it up with a 1, 3, or 7 day passes. That will give you unlimited rides for the time period you purchase. If you plan on spending a couple days in Chicago, more convenient option (you wave the card at the reader inside the bus or train station) and less expensive since it gives the user unlimited rides.

Taxis
Chicago is absolutely filthy with cabs, especially around the popular spots in the Loop, which is where you will most likely spend most of your time. While not as economical as the CTA, it is faster and widely available. Pro-tip: if the light on the the taxi's roof is lit up, that means it is available.
Uber & Lyft
Both services are widely available throughout Chicago. Lyft offers new users $10 credits for the first five rides. So if everyone in your group downloads the Lyft app, you can very easily ride on the cheap all weekend.
Uber allows a greater variety of car options, from Uber X (non-taxi people driving, like Lyft), Uber Taxi (you can hail a Chicago cab), and Uber Black Car (if you want to be driven around in a Towncar for some reason).
But what about renting a car?
This should be your last resort for several reasons. Parking at a hotel is expensive (upwards of $50 per day). Driving around Chicago (and the Loops) is a nightmare factory during certain times of the day. Parking around the Loops is very expensive (think $6 for 15 minutes; yes, minutes). Parking on the street isn't free either as meters are everywhere and cost from $2 to $8 per hour.
If you absolutely must drive, try using SpotHero for your parking needs. You can search for parking and reserve it online without the need for driving in circles.
